The Big Short is one of those movies that you watch in complete and total disbelief. If you’ve always wanted to understand what lead to the housing crisis and subsequent economic collapse in America, this is the movie to watch, or the book to read.
The all star cast includes Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt. Their characters are based on the real life individuals who figured out that subprime home loans were defaulting, and they could make millions (and billions) by betting against the housing market.
Though the film is wildly entertaining, the harsh reality behind the story is hard to stomach. I’m not sure which is worse, the fact that not one single individual from Wall Street went to jail, or the fact that there’s another bubble in the making, and those creating it, and taking advantage of it, know they’ll get away with it. Again.
